Fourthwalling: Probably not, I generally prefer to avoid it. Ask first.
Offensive subjects (elaborate): Clearly label any sensitive/triggering or NSFW content and we'll be good. I prefer to avoid overly graphic descriptions of gore, (nonconsensual) sexual violence, and animal abuse.

GotG AU Information
Orphaned as a child and sold to slavers, Bauer is thereafter "acquired" by Yondu, who takes a liking to his headstrong attitude and decides to keep the young boy around and raise him. He has only a vague recollection of his time as a captive, and doesn't know the full truth of how Yondu saved him from a grim fate. Despite not fully embracing the space pirate and mercenary lifestyle of his guardian, Bauer finds his purpose working as an engineer (and occasional medic) aboard Yondu's ship and has earned some renown for his skills. He has his doubts that the captain or his crew ever intended to eat him. Knowing of Yondu's fondness for collecting trinkets, a young Vincent gives him a sentimental gift in the form of a bobblehead cat figurine. The gesture is symbolic of his acceptance of Yondu as his family. |

Character at a glance

Character Name: Bauer
Canon: Air (2015)
Sometime in the future...
In the wake of hybrid nuclear and chemical weapon attacks, the atmosphere is rendered poisonous and the majority of the human race has been wiped out. Prior to this the United States government had hastily erected underground deep sleep facilities, in which scientists, doctors, engineers — those deemed to have unique and irreplaceable knowledge, necessary for mankind's future — are maintained in cryogenic sleep tanks until such time that the outside world is habitable again.
Vincent Bauer is one of the engineers overseeing station GHI 048 alongside his partner, Cartwright. They awaken from cryogenic sleep for a span of two hours every six months in order to fulfill their duties as technicians: routine inspections and maintenance to ensure the facility is functioning as it should be, and that the "sleepers", as Bauer calls the residents in cryo, are taken care of medically. This has been their life for an unspecified number of years.
Keeping his true motives hidden, Cartwright approaches their work with optimism and respect for the task they've been entrusted with. Bauer instead tends to view them as glorified custodians doing a thankless, ultimately pointless job and the ones who "get stepped on" in order for others to survive. He doesn't hold out much hope for the future, but is nonetheless as dedicated as his partner to their work and continues to meet his duties. What else is there to do?
He is irreverent and uncouth, often to his partner's consternation, but pragmatic enough to be successful at his job, and is shown demonstrating both mechanical and medical knowledge seemingly more advanced than his partner's. In Bauer's mind they've become close friends and for all intents and purposes are the only two people truly left alive. He tells Cartwright that they're family now, a sentiment most clearly reflected by the lengths he's willing to go to after his partner's personal cryo tank becomes too damaged to function — he suggests painlessly overdosing one of the sleepers with morphine and using their tank, an idea that Cartwright vehemently rejects. While Cartwright likewise shows concern for Bauer's well being and considers them to be friends, he doesn't seem to reciprocate the deeper familial bond Bauer wants with him.

Alternate Universes
A skilled technician and engineer from the future charged with overseeing the care of the last remnants of humanity, who have been put into a cryogenic sleep. Jaded but still dedicated to his work. Lonely, tends to get attached easily to those who show him kindness, can be too trusting and loyal to a fault once he's let you in. Generally selfless and good-hearted but resents being taken advantage of.
